arduino-cnc-shield

by protoneer.co.nz:

We have designed the Arduino CNC Shield to use all the pins that GRBL implemented. We have also added a few extra pins to make things a little easier. GRBL is opensource software that runs on an Arduino Uno that takes G-Code commands via Serial and turns the commands into motor signals. Now compatible with Raspberry PI.

3D Printers, CNC Mills, Laser cutters, Pick n Place robots…Brainboard v2 will rule them all!

Brainboard v2 is a modular CNC controller board based on LPC1768/69 Cortex-M3 chip. Due to its modular design it allows easier upgrades as per requirements and easy replacement if there is any broken part. It runs on open source Smoothie modular firmware and is targeted at 3D Printers, Laser cutters, CNC Mills, Pick and Place and other small or Mid-size CNC machines. Upgrade your machines for higher performance and features.

Welcome to this project. The CNC UNO is a small desktop CNC Mill that can be used for hobby engraving and routing, PCB milling and education. It is mainly made with 3D Printed ABS plastic parts and plywood. Before starting this project, please observe that this machine is not intended for precision work nor for cutting hard materials like metal. As the machine parts are made of plastic and wood, the machine will flex under heavy load and that is why this project is for fun rather than any serious application. That said, it is a great little machine for hobbyists that want something to play with without having to spend a fortune.

It’s a cnc using Arduino UNO R3 , GCode Sender and GRBL. The cnc is made of wood thanks to the help of my father. It has taken us many hours to do the mechanical part however the electronic part is faster to do, but is very gratifying. I based my project on these videos and I have received much support from the author of the first video.

The total cost of the project is about 450€.

Drilling holes in homemade PCBs is greatly simplified with an computer-driven coordinate table on a drill press.

The clue is the on-the-fly calibration technique, so it does not matter where exactly the PCB lies on the table. You only need to move to two drill holes by hand, then the computer knows how to drive to the other holes.

othermill

by Michael Dunn @ edn.com:

Version 2 of the desktop Othermill milling machine is now available, and it’s accurate enough for a range of machining tasks, including double-sided PCBs.

The machine can handle a range of materials, like brass, aluminum, wood, and plastic. For PCBs, FR-1 is recommended over FR-4. With a small milling bit, footprints as fine as TSSOP & TQFP can be created. Solder paste stencils can also be cut using the mill.

For a good walkthrough of PCB creation, read this blog by Tom Simon, a user who liked the Othermill so much he joined the sales team.

this is my first instructable. i show you updates on my cnc machine which will cost about 200 euro’s for still decent quality.
don’t hate if you don’t like this instructable, I’m just an 18 years old student from belguim sharing his ideas and creations with other people. because i think working together and sharing idea’s will make better projects.

this is what the machine looks like right now. ill post new photos every time i advance building

i know my video’s are not the best. i’m working hard to show you how everything works so it would be nice if you watched at least a peace of all of them to support my project.

Piccolo, a pocket-sized stand-alone CNC platform from DiatomStudio:

Using laser-cutting, off-the-shelf hardware and Arduino, you can make your own simple 3 axis robot. Attach a brush or pen to make a quick drawing robot, or extend Piccolo with sensors, custom toolheads, or by using multiple Piccolos together. Experiment with 2D or 3D digital fabrication at a small scale!

All parts were developed separately. This allowed adjustments in the assembly as well as smaller changes in case the design of one or other part become required.

Focus on low cost and use of materials easily accessible in the local market.
